ROCKINGHAM — Crews spent the better part of Friday night trying to pull an 18-wheeler out of the woods.

According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, a tractor-trailer hauling lumber on a flatbed was travelling north on U.S. 1 when another 18-wheeler pulled out from the truck stop near the U.S. 74 bypass.

To avoid a collision, the driver of the first truck swerved and hit a four-door passenger car before veering off into the woods.

The far-right northbound lane of U.S. 1 was temporarily closed while the truck was pulled out.

Troopers say no injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

The East Rockingham and Northside volunteer fire departments both responded, as well as Richmond County Emergency Services, Arlo’s Wrecker Service and Superior Cranes.
