EAST ROCKINGHAM — Two structure fires kept crews with one fire department busy Monday morning.

The East Rockingham Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire at 160 Hatcher Road around 1 a.m.

According to Chief Bill Bayless, the owners had been welding a trailer hitch in preparation for a move on Sunday and he believes a spark started the fire.

Crews were dispatched to a second fire just before 7 a.m. at 121 Church Street in the Hannah Pickett area.

Bayless said Monday afternoon that the cause of the fire had not yet been determined.

He added that people were staying in the rental home, which was destroyed, but no one was home at the time of the fire.

By 2 p.m., Bayless said he had not been able to contact the residents or the homeowner.
