2 killed in wreck with tractor-trailer south of Rockingham

ROCKINGHAM — Two men were killed Monday afternoon in a collision with a tractor-trailer on U.S. 1.

According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, a tractor-trailer turned left onto U.S. 1, pulling out of the truck stop near the U.S. 74 overpass around 2:30 p.m. Aug. 29.

The tractor-trailer reportedly pulled out in front of a Toyota 4Runner that was northbound on U.S. 1, troopers say.

As a result of the crash, 29-year-old Dustin Caulder and 76-year-old Lloyd Johnson, both of Rockingham, were killed.

The tractor-trailer was driven by Moletlanyi Oteng, of Hampsted, for Alexo Trucking. According to records with the N.C. Secretary of State’s office, Oteng is listed as the owner of the company.

Troopers say charges are pending and the wreck is still under investigation.
