ROCKINGHAM — Two more Richmond County residents have reportedly died from complications of COVID-19, including one under the age of 50.
The Richmond County Health Department reported the deaths Saturday morning.
According to the Health Department, the updated race and gender breakdown is as follows: 21 African American females, 22 African American males, three “other race” females, one “other race” male, two Hispanic females, one Hispanic male, two American Indian males, 41 Caucasian females and 36 Caucasian males.
All patients have been between the ages of 31 and 95: 34 have been 80 or older; 33 have been in their 70s; 37 in their 60s; 16 in their 50s; seven in their 40s and two in their 30s.
Of the county’s deaths, 99 have been at a hospital, 23 have passed away in another healthcare facility and seven have died outside of a health setting.
Based on previous reports, the most recent deaths were both of African American men — one in his 40s, the other in his 70s.
Four of the last five COVID-related deaths have been of African American men, according to Health Department reports.
The recent deaths bring the September total to three. The first was announced Sept. 2.
There have now been 75 COVID-related deaths this year, including 13 in February and 23 in both January and August.
The county’s overall COVID death toll is 129 since the first was reported in April of 2020.
As of Sept. 3, there had been 14,708 statewide, according to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services — an increase of 179 in the two days since Sept. 1.
The Health Department will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day.
