4 killed in wreck near Richmond-Moore line

PINEBLUFF — A family of four was killed after colliding with a tractor-trailer near the Moore-Richmond line Friday afternoon.

Citing troopers with the N.C. State Highway Patrol, WRAL-TV reports that the driver of a Honda Accord lost control in the southbound lane of U.S. 1 and hydroplaned, crossing the median and crashed into a tractor-trailer.

A band of heavy rain moved through the area early in the 3 o’clock-hour.

The Sandhills Sentinel reports that the tractor-trailer ended up partially in the median and the Honda came to a stop in the woods on the northbound side.

The Sentinel also reports that the truck lost around 30 gallons of fuel on the road which had to be cleaned up.

The occupants of the car were identified as 28-year-old Tesmond Thomas, 26-year-old Latanya Jones, 6-year-old Levi Thomas and 4-year-old Judah Thomas of Aberdeen. All were reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Sentinel, citing first responders, the two adults had to be extricated and the children were ejected during the wreck.

The  driver of the truck, 36-year-old Tamerio Epps, reportedly received minor injuries and will not be charged.

According to a Facebook post, there was a balloon release for the victims Sunday afternoon in Rockingham and funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. July 10 at Sidney Grove Agape Center in Ellerbe.
