8 file opening day for municipal elections

ROCKINGHAM — Eight candidates on Friday filed for this fall’s municipal elections.

Of those, all but two are current office holders, according to the Richmond County Board of Elections.

Adrian Robson, who announced his intention to run several months back, filed for the Norman mayoral race. Current Mayor Kenneth Broadway has said he doesn’t plan to run again.

Terry Moore is one of three candidates to file for Hamlet City Council. The other two, Maurice Stuart and Joseph Robinson, were appointed this year to fill out the remainder of the terms after David Lindsay and Johnathon Buie resigned.

Hamlet Mayor Bill Bayless also filed to run again.

Ellerbe councilman Fred Cloninger submitted his paperwork — but not for his current seat.

Cloninger is running for mayor this time around.
