The cause of the accident has not been determined, but a Hamlet Fire and Rescue spokesman stated that it looked as if the driver had left the highway and over-corrected, which then caused the accident.

Responding to the accident was Hamlet Fire and Rescue, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol. The Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
