HAMLET — Richmond County Schools will be able to purchase new laptops thanks to a donation from American Woodmark.
The cabinet manufacturer presented a check to the district Thursday for $6,320.
American Woodmark has a foundation which allocates money to each location which is given the choice of how to use those funds, according to Bob Young, director of operations for the Hamlet facility.
A foundation committee, composed of hourly and salaried employees, determines how the funds are distributed, he added.
“Since its inception, we’re close to $46,000 in contributions to the community,” he said.
With the recent donation, Young said the school system should be able to purchase 20 laptops.
“During these times, we realize the demand is real and we are willing to hear anyone’s nonprofit needs,” he said.
Last month, Therafirm donated more than 16,000 masks to the district for students and staff to use as some students return to the classroom amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
