ELLERBE — A local produce stand and a poultry company are teaming up to offer discounted prices on chicken and turkey.
Perdue Farms announced late Tuesday that it would be bringing a truckload of products to the Berry Patch on Thursday “to help the local community during these (challenging) times amid the coronavirus pandemic.”
Berry Patch owner Lee Berry said he was contacted by Perdue to host the event.
“They were looking for some place that was centrally located and where people were already coming,” he said from a tractor in the field Tuesday night. “Me and Amy (his wife) talked about it and thought it would be good for the area, good for the community.”
Berry said Perdue would be selling 600 cases of poultry products.
Those products include 12-pound cases of mesquite smoked sliced turkey for $30 and 20-pound cases of boneless skinless chicken breasts for $40.
There is a limit of three cases per customer.
Berry said he thought the prices were a good deal, “especially as tight as people’s money is right now.”
“Customers should remain in their vehicles for social distancing,” the press release reads. “The Berry Patch staff will distribute cases and handle payment by either credit card, electronic bank transfer or cash transactions.”
Berry added that they will also be wearing gloves and face masks.
The parking lot will be marked off to form a drive-thru line, he said.
The sale starts at 10 a.m. and will continue until supplies last.
