Body found in Dobbins Heights identified; sheriff’s investigators seek leads

DOBBINS HEIGHTS — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has identified the body of a man found Tuesday behind the Community Center.

Investigators say the body is that of 17-year-old Malachi Jaheim Hailey, of N.C. 177 in Hamlet.

His body has been sent to the N.C. Chief Medical Examiner’s office in Raleigh to determine a cause of death.

Mayor Pro Tem Tyre Holloway told the RO that the body was discovered by a pool attendant, while children were at the pool.

Sheriff James Clemmons said deputies were on the scene for about 15 minutes before the park and community center were closed at 3 p.m.

Hamlet Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
