Body pulled from Hamlet City Lake

William R. Toler - Richmond Observer

HAMLET — Police are conducting a death investigation after a body was pulled from Hamlet City Lake.

The body, that of a white male in his late 20s, was spotted in the water early Sunday afternoon by someone who was going fishing, according to investigators.

Personnel with the Hamlet police and fire departments were on the southeast corner of the lake, on the east side of the spillway, holding white sheets around the body.

Investigators took photos as the rain poured, thunder rumbled and lightning struck nearby.

Several onlookers drove by or walked up to the edge of the spillway to get a glimpse of what was going on.

A medical examiner responded to the scene and investigators say the body will be sent off for an autopsy.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
