ROCKINGHAM — One state office candidate is missing a campaign sign — and the truck it was in.
According to the Rockingham Police Department, a white pickup truck with a campaign sign for Rep. Jamie Boles, R-Moore was parked at Walmart on Saturday.
However, it was reported stolen Tuesday.
Police are unsure when the truck was actually moved.
As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, the incident report had not yet been approved.
Boles’ campaign posted a photo of the truck, asking Richmond County residents to be on the lookout.
The post goes on to read: “Who doesn’t love a good scavenger hunt?! Please contact local law enforcement with any leads. Campaign season is always eventful.”
In addition to the vehicle larceny charge, whoever took it could also face a misdemeanor.
According to state statute: “It is a Class 3 misdemeanor for a person to steal, deface, vandalize, or unlawfully remove a political sign that is lawfully placed …”
Boles is facing Richmond County’s Rep. Ben Moss in a Republican primary for N.C. House District 52.
The two sitting representatives were double-bunked when legislative district maps were redrawn last year.
Boles, a funeral home owner who is in his seventh term, represents District 52, which is a large portion of Moore County.
Moss is currently serving his first term representing District 66, which includes Richmond and Montgomery counties, and the eastern sliver of Stanly County.
The new District 52 comprises all of Richmond and part of Moore.
Early voting runs through Saturday, May 14 from 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on May 14. The primary election is May 17.
