HAMLET – Calls came in to the Hamlet Police Department late Thursday that shots had been heard in the area of the Hamlet Food Mart on King Street.
Hamlet Police Department officers arriving at the scene found Jewaren Rush on Washington Avenue near Washington Court Apartments with a bullet wound to his lower left leg.
The injury was deemed “not life-threatening,” but Rush was taken to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment.
Warrants have been issued for Devion Marquis Ward of 211Mill Road, Rockingham, for Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.
Hamlet Police Chief Scott Waters indicated that the victim had been transferred to another hospital, but reiterated that the wound was not life-threatening.
It was also noted by Chief Waters that two arrests were made for a breach of a crime scene, but that no other developments can be reported at this time.
