BREAKING NEWS: RCS Early College Will Dismiss Early Monday Due to Solar Eclipse

HAMLET — With a once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse occurring Monday, August 21, Richmond County Schools has announced a change in the district’s Early College schedule.

Per the office of superintendent Dr. Cindy Goodman, RCS’ public information officer Briana Goins informed The Richmond Observer that Early College students will be dismissed from class and sent home at 12 p.m. With Richmond Count being expected to experience the solar eclipse around 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, there are possible dangers pertaining to the event.

In a released statement, RCS noted that, “Student safety is always our first priority. Please be advised, a projection technique or a special solar filter must be used to safely view the total solar eclipse.”
