ROCKINGHAM – KL Media, the Richmond County-based parent company that owns The Richmond Observer, has announced the launch of a new 24-hour per day, 7 days per week radio station titled The Classic ROCK that will launch this Monday, January 22, at 6 a.m.

The station’s name is a play on both the genre of music that will be played as well as the network’s headquarters, Rockingham. KL Media’s original programming will include LIVE AT 5, Good Morning Sandhills, and the upcoming The RO Sports Show, along with other programs that will air on the network.

But the network will mostly play listeners’ favorite classic rock hits from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. The selection of music will include, but not be limited to, artists like Journey, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Eagles, Bon Jovi, and many more artists from the era.

“We are genuinely excited about having our own 24/7 network,” said Lance Jenkins, co-owner of KL Media and The Richmond Observer. “This allows us to provide the Sandhills region a music and talk radio network with original programming tailored directly to them, rather than having to rely on networks in larger urban areas that have programming that may not relate to the people in our area at all.”

Jenkins went on to say, “This is the Sandhills’ very own network of music and talk programs, put together just for them. We are thrilled to roll this out on Monday.”

The first show to air when the station launches this Monday will be Good Morning Sandhills featuring Lance Jenkins and radio veteran Sierra McQueen, and will begin at 6 a.m. At 8 a.m., classic rock hits from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s will headline the rest of the day. LIVE AT 5 will then air live at 5 p.m. every day in audio format, but will also continue to be available on-demand and on Facebook, YouTube, richmondobserver.com, and The Richmond Observer app.

The Classic ROCK will also air the hit blues program Confessing the Blues, hosted by radio veteran Cleve Baker, on Thursday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. Confessing the Blues is recorded each week in northeastern North Carolina where Baker’s main studio is located and is the No. 1 Blues program in the United Kingdom today.  It is wildly popular in the United States for bringing listeners the soulful Blues sound of Memphis, Tennesee and the Mississippi River. While the genre is not exactly “classic rock,” Jenkins thinks classic rock lovers will appreciate this show and its music as well.

“Cleve (Baker) has brought this award-winning show to listeners for many years, and as a personal friend, we are happy to have him on our programming two nights each week,” Jenkins said. “From B.B. King to Buddy Guy and more, you’ll love his show.”

The Classic ROCK can be listened to by downloading the official The Classic ROCK Sandhills app on Android devices (already available for download) and Apple/iPhone devices (available Monday, January 22). You can also listen to the network on the TuneIn radio app for Android/iPhone devices, and online at theclassicrockradio.com.
