ROCKINGHAM — Two more current office holders filed to retain their seats on Friday.

According to Elections Director Connie Kelly, Hoffman Councilwoman Cynthia Northcutt and Dobbins Heights Mayor Pro Tem Tyré Holloway both filed for the upcoming municipal elections.

Northcutt joins fellow council members Ricardo “Ricky” Anderson, Daniel Kelly and Rory K. Jones, as well as Mayor Tommy Hart in trying to be reseated, leaving Councilman John Taylor as the only holdout so far.

All seats in Hoffman are up for reelection, as that town has two-year, non-staggered terms.

Holloway and Angeline David are the only candidates whose seats are up in Dobbins Heights, which will hold its election Oct. 5.

With a week left to go, none of the current office holders in Ellerbe — Mayor Fred Cloninger and council members Jean Fletcher, Elsie Freeman, Archie Robinson and John Sears Jr. — have filed for reelection.

However, two newcomers — Thomas R. Grooms and Bennett Hawks — are vying for a seat on that board.

Sears was appointed to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Joe Grooms. Because of election rules, Sears will have to run again to continue to fill out the four-year term.

All four candidates for Rockingham — Mayor Steve Morris and council members Anne Edwards Denise Sullivan and Gene Willard — have filed, with no competition thus far. Morris, Sullivan and Willard filed July 2 and Edwards filed July 6, according to election records.

The top two vote-getters in the council election will have a four-year term and the third-highest will serve a two-year term.

In Hamlet, no one has yet challenged councilmen Eddie Martin and Jesse McQueen or Mayor Bill Bayless, all of whom have filed.

The elections for Rockingham, Hamlet, Ellerbe and Hoffman will be Nov. 2.

Filing fees are as follows:

  • $30 – Hamlet mayor
  • $10 – Rockingham mayor, Rockingham City Council, Hamlet City Council, Ellerbe Mayor, Ellerbe Town Commission
  • $5 – Dobbins Height Town Council, Hoffman mayor, Hoffman City Council

Filing ends at noon July 16.
