HAMLET — One local manufacturer is wanting to make sure kids at Monroe Avenue Elementary are prepared for the start of the upcoming school year.

Representatives from Cavco Industries delivered 40 colorful bags to the school Thursday morning.

Inside the bags were several school supplies, including packs of paper, folders, pencils and crayons.

Cavco is a home manufacturer located in the Richmond County Industrial Park, off of U.S. 74 south of Hamlet.

The company announced last year that it had acquired the property formerly occupied by VBC Manufacturing.

Based in Phoenix, Arizona, CAVCO is reportedly the third-largest builder of manufactured homes in the U.S.

The donation comes two days after United Way of Richmond County teamed up with Richmond County Schools for the 15th annual Stuff the Bus campaign at the Rockingham Walmart.

The event, which had a record 66 sponsors, collected 38,000 supplies, according to UWRC Executive Director Michelle Parrish.

Those supplies were divided up by school and also delivered on Thursday.
