ROCKINGHAM — Traffic near Richmond Plaza is being re-routed following a wreck involving a reported stolen vehicle.

According to Rockingham Police Chief Billy Kelly, a reported stolen vehicle was being pursued by the Anson County Sheriff’s Office early Thursday afternoon.

Kelly said the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit prior to a crash just past the intersection of Biltmore Drive.

The suspect vehicle wound up beside Firestone Tire in Richmond Plaza. Kelly said the driver was apprehended.

Another vehicle, not involved with the chase, was wrecked in front of Mama Noi’s.

Crews from the Rockingham Fire Department and Duke Energy cleaned up the crash scene.

Kelly was not yet aware of any injuries.

Some drivers on Biltmore were pulling around Walgreen’s and turning right to cut through the parking lots to get around the scene.
