Community Home Care & Hospice: Extending Beyond the Home

This basket is part of a fundraiser to raise money to send a recent Community Home Care & Hospice patient's ashes back to his home in West Virginia.

ROCKINGHAM—When a patient passed away two short weeks ago, one of the largest hospice providers came together to see how they could grant their last wish.

Having one’s ashes spread in the place that they once called home may seem like a simple request; however, the patient had no insurance and no family to assist with the costs. Although this happens more than most would expect, it has not stopped Community Home Care & Hospice who says they will always try to reach out and give as much as they can.

Community Home Care & Hospice is attached to a nonprofit foundation that has assisted with most of the expenses. They are now selling tickets for a “date night” basket, valued at $100, to cover the remaining costs. All of the proceeds will go towards returning the ashes of the recently deceased hospice patient to West Virginia, where the patient originally resided.

This is just one of the many ways that Community Home Care & Hospice helps to extend their care far beyond the home. On July 19, the group will be holding a social event at The Hive in Rockingham at 2:00pm to help further support the family members and friends of their patients.

“We don’t see them as patients. We see them as family, because often, they don’t have any family or anyone that comes to see them at all,” said Hospice Care Consultant Tonya Butts.

Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. If you have any questions about how to purchase raffle tickets, please contact Tonya Butts at (910) 895-2871.
