1- The U.S. House could hold its re-vote on the farm bill soon and the outcome might be too close to call still. Politico

2- The U.S. House is also believed to be taking up immigration today, after a week in which various plans were in the works. The Hill

3- North Carolina is now expected to be the focus as courts look at the constitutionality of legislators drawing districts to keep the reigning party in power. Cases in Wisconsin and Maryland have been set aside, and North Carolina’s case could set the precedent for gerrymandering laws. Roll Call 

4- Plant-based products calling themselves “milks” will continue to pick up sales, a new report says, but adds that the total volume of alternative milk is relatively small and not a major factor behind declining fluid milk sales. SFN Today 

5- Scientists have worked to produce pigs with a changed genetic code that makes them resistant to Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Illness, a disease that has cost the industry about $2.5 billion annually in the U.S. and Europe alone. EurekAlert 

6- This week’s Focus on Agriculture considers ways to bridge the farmer-consumer gap, and how farmers can seize on the opportunity created by consumer interest in food. American Farm Bureau 

7- Basil downy mildew has now been reported in North Carolina, and growers are advised to actively scout for the disease and implement management strategies to prevent pathogen spread. Plant Pathology – Cooperative Extension 

8- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is beginning the process of regulating lab-grown meat, and is holding a public hearing on the issue July 12. Southeast Farm Press

9- Participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is at its lowest level since 2010. American FarmBureau
