Daniel spearheads Christmas Breakfast to help others

ROCKINGHAM ― A group of past and present elected officials in two counties are once again banding together to help Pee Dee-area children have a happy Christmas.

Richmond County Clerk of Superior Court Vickie Daniel invites residents to join her and other notable politicians from both sides of the aisle to the second annual Christmas Breakfast this Saturday and, in turn, bring a donation to help the less fortunate.

“As the community has so graciously given to us, we would like to take this opportunity to give back,” Daniel says on a flyer promoting the event.

While the breakfast is free, organizers encourage those who come to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to a local food bank or a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots, sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

Joining Daniel this year are: Vancine Sturdivant, Anson County commissioner; Reece Saunders, District Attorney for both Richmond and Anson counties; Richmond County Sheriff James Clemmons; Bobbie Sue Ormsby, member of the Richmond County Board of Education; Ken & Dawn Layton;  state Sen. Tom McInnis; state Rep. Ken Goodman and wife, Dr. Cindy Goodman, outgoing superintendent of Richmond County Schools; and Gene and Donna McLaurin, the former being a past Rockingham mayor, state senator and current member of the Economic Development Partnership for North Carolina.

Bojangles of Rockingham is also sponsoring the breakfast, which will be from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the National Guard Armory on Rockingham Road.

“We look forward to seeing you during this season of giving and fellowship,” Daniel said.
