ROCKINGHAM – Discovery Place Kids opened in downtown Rockingham on Feb. 23, 2013 and continues to be an asset to Richmond County in benefitting children’s education.
Discovery Place Kids is a regional children’s museum which offers many fun and interactive activities that help educate and encourage children. The activities keep children occupied for hours as they use their imagination while exploring all the areas available.
In addition to Discovery Place Kids’ everyday activities, the museum will also be offering a special event on November 4 which will be called “I CAN Be Anything”.
This will be the third year the fair has taken place, and is geared towards encouraging children to explore their career options at a kid-sized level.
“We thought it would be great to have different professions attend,” museum director Katie Rohleder said. “We already have several (people) who have signed-up for the event.”
Some of the attendees that will be setup include: the Rockingham Fire Department, the Rockingham Police Department, and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department. There will also be professionals representing career paths within an electric company, architecture, doctors and nurses, and many more.
Some will be set up outside in the parking lot with access to their vehicles for the children to explore, and many more will be available inside Discovery Place Kids with giveaways for the children who attend. Dance Sensations and Gymnastics will also be there to perform.
Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to volunteer a few hours of their time by bringing in fun activities or items to explain the type of work they do. The goal, according to the museum, is to help children explore their future.
