ROCKINGHAM — Life has been anything but normal for the past two months which caught us all blind-sided.

With the COVID-19 restrictions Gov. Roy Cooper has set in place, people have been using creative ways to celebrate special occasions to keep some kind of normalcy in life.

On Saturday, May 23, a drive-by baby shower took place in front of Bold Moves Dance Studio which is located in downtown Rockingham.

This baby shower was not only unique in the way it took place, but the event celebrated the soon-coming arrival of two baby showers in one.

Holly Howe, owner and teacher of Bold Moves and her husband Mark were being celebrated to welcome their first baby, which is a boy, “Sullivan.”

Sarah Phillips is also a teacher at the studio, and she and her husband Zach are expecting the arrival of their second baby, which is a girl, “Lucy.”

Howe and Phillips are sisters who are due to have their babies one week apart.

Dana Pope and Sandy Player decided to put it all together.

Since they couldn’t have a traditional baby shower, they decided a drive-by would be perfect as it would allow everyone to be able to participate including the children involved in dance.

It was a hot day, and took more effort to set everything up as Pope and Player decorated for the event.

This is Bold Moves’ sixth season, and the recital should have taken place earlier this month but was cancelled due to the coronavirus.

“Both my daughters have been involved in dance, and this is the first time in 20 years that we haven’t had a recital,” Player said.

There was a table set up outside the studio; one side decorated for the baby girl and the other side for the baby boy.

People began arriving at 1 p.m. and drove by until 3 p.m.; some parked to visit and got out to drop off their gifts.

Although life has become rearranged for now with all the social-distancing, the hearts of people ponder to reach out in love uniquely encouraging and bringing a smile to others.
