Driver cited after flipping logging truck north of Ellerbe

ELLERBE — A logging-truck driver was cited earlier this week when he flipped his truck on the side of the highway.

Trooper W. Mayor with the N.C. State Highway Patrol said the driver told him he had recently left a nearby logging site when he ran off the shoulder of the eastbound lane of N.C. 73, about a half-mile south of the intersection with Cartledge Creek Road, Monday afternoon.

The driver was able to get the cab back on the road but the weight of the load of thin logs caused the trailer to flip in the rain-soaked ground, Maynor said.

The truck and trailer remained flipped on its side, blocking the eastbound lane, causing traffic to have to move into the opposite lane to get by.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.

The driver had minor cuts and refused medical treatment, according to the trooper.

Maynor cited the driver for failure to maintain lane control.

The report was not readily available, so the name of the driver is currently unknown.
