ROCKINGHAM — One person died and another was airlifted following a one-vehicle wreck over the weekend.

According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, 20-year-old Aaliyah Jones was driving down State Road 1475 — which is McDonald Church Road — around 5 p.m. Sunday when she ran off the road to the left and hit a tree.

The driver died as a result of the crash, troopers say.

A passenger, whom troopers did not identify, was airlifted and is still being treated for injuries at a hospital.

Troopers say it appears that speed was a factor but there are no indications of other contributing circumstances.
