Duke Energy will begin gradually drawing down Lake Tillery on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023. The lake will be managed 6 to 8 feet below full pond elevation from Oct. 23 to Nov. 10, 2023. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license issued in 2015 for the Yadkin-Pee Dee Hydro Project requires a drawdown of Lake Tillery once every five years. Duke Energy performed a similar drawdown of Lake Tillery in 2018.

Weather conditions and river inflows will impact the time required for Lake Tillery to return to standard winter levels at the conclusion of the drawdown.

Lake neighbors were informed of this drawdown earlier in the year as it provides an opportunity to perform maintenance activities on docks, retaining walls and other shoreline structures. Maintenance activities along the shoreline, and modifications of structures in the lake and on Duke Energy-leased property, require a lake use permit from Duke Energy before work begins.
