ELLERBE – With the cancellation of Hamlet’s July 4 activities, Ellerbe’s 4th of July Jamboree and Fireworks becomes the only Independence Day event in the county today, and it will likely prove to be a huge turnout and success.
The City of Hamlet on Monday announced their event would be cancelled as a result of heightened security concerns related to a recent homicide in the town. City Manager Jonathan Blanton said it was an “important call” to make for the safety of those who may attend.
Ellerbe’s event, put on by the local Lions Club, is still set for today with festivities beginning at 2:00pm. The event will be held at Lions Club Park on Cemetery Road.
The Jamboree and Fireworks event will feature the following schedule:
10:00am – Gates Open (enter at main gate only)
2:00pm – Games and Festivities
4:00pm – Opening Ceremony (Lion of the Year and Citizen of the Year Awards)
4:15-5:00pm – Jacobs Family
5:00-6:00pm – Mt. Carmel Youth Band
6:00-6:55pm – Karaoke
6:55pm – Kayak Drawing
7:00pm – Dark Horse
Dusk – FIREWORKS SHOW
For the Ellerbe event, adults are $5.00, children 12 and under are $3.00.
