PINEHURST, N.C. – A family nurse practitioner, with a background in both acute and urgent care nursing, will assume an unusual role during October with her affiliation with two FirstHealth of the Carolinas family medicine programs.

Julie T. Coggins, FNP-C, who will join Betty Bruton Bradley, M.D., at FirstHealth Family Medicine-Candor and Bo Kopynec, M.D., and Bridget Thompson, PA-C, at FirstHealth Family Medicine-Ellerbe, looks forward to the unique assignment of working in communities in two different counties.

“Although I will serve two different communities, Ellerbe in Richmond County and Candor in Montgomery County, they have the similarities of being rural communities and both need a provider that understands their unique health care needs,” Coggins said. “Being a native of the area allows me a unique approach and understanding of the population to provide effective health care.”

Coggins earned her associate degree in nursing from Stanly Community College and spent several years as a registered nurse in a medical/telemetry unit and in a medical/surgical float pool at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital before receiving her Bachelor of Science degree and her Master of Science-Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Winston-Salem State University.

She then worked as a family nurse practitioner at Sandhills Urgent Care and Family Practice in Aberdeen and Troy Medical Services in Troy.

According to Coggins, the move from one nursing degree to another and then another came naturally and with FirstHealth’s support.

“FirstHealth encourages nurses to further their knowledge and training to provide up-to-date, current and evidence-based health care,” she says. “With this support, my desire to obtain further education and knowledge through advanced degrees just came naturally.”

Coggins is a native of Montgomery County. She and her husband, Daniel, have three young adult children.
