FirstHealth, Discovery Place Kids partnering to bring SpringFest Fun Run & 5K to downtown Rockingham

ROCKINGHAM — Putting fitness and healthy living in focus, FirstHealth’s Richmond Memorial Foundation and Discovery Place Kids–Rockingham are joining forces to launch the SpringFest Fun Run & 5K.

The race, which is coming to Richmond on Saturday, April 20, 2024, will feature a fun and challenging course through downtown Rockingham and the Hitchcock Creek area before finishing at Discovery Place Kids – Rockingham.

The Fun Run is scheduled for 9 a.m., while the 5K begins at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Richmond Memorial Hospital Foundation and Discovery Place Kids–Rockingham. Simultaneously, a Kids Day event will include plenty of fun for younger attendees.

From 8 a.m. to noon, kids can receive blood pressure checks, hands-only CPR education and AED education. FirstHealth EMS will be on site to create ID cards and kids will be able to listen to their hearts. There will also be bike helmet fittings to promote safety.

“This event is a community celebration, and its one way our Foundation and Discovery Place Kids can promote fitness, healthy eating and healthy lifestyle education,” said Ron Ballard, the chairman of the Richmond Memorial Foundation Board of Directors. “We are excited to bring this race to downtown Rockingham.”

Angela Watkins, the director of Discovery Place Kids, said families will have plenty of fun activities to take part in as Kids Day offers a chance for them to learn about healthy lifestyle choices.

“We are expecting a beautiful spring day, and what better way to celebrate than by getting outside to enjoy the Fun Run & 5K and all the festivities,” Watkins said.
