ROCKINGHAM — FirstHealth of the Carolinas is warning residents of Richmond County about a phone scam using “caller ID spoofing.”
Several residents of the county have received phone calls that appear to be from a FirstHealth phone number, and scammers are alleging that they need to put money into a person’s financial accounts. There have also been reports of the scammers trying to sell insurance on behalf of FirstHealth. These calls appear to be cases of caller ID spoofing, when a scammer manipulates the caller ID feature to disguise their identity.
Anyone who receives a call like this should hang up — do not share any personal information over the phone. Anyone who may have given any personal information to a similar caller should contact their bank and/or credit card companies. Anyone who believes they may be a victim of identity theft should also contact local law enforcement.
Please be advised that FirstHealth does not deposit money into patient’s bank accounts. If you have a question about a FirstHealth bill, please call our patient accounts department at 910-715-1010 .
