HAMLET — One local fast food restaurant will be closed for a while following an evening fire late last week.

According to Asst. Chief Richard Lassiter with the Hamlet Fire Department, a fryer at the Burger King in Hamlet caught fire during a storm that swept through the county.

The call came in around 6:10 p.m.

No injuries were reported and the building itself is “structurally sound,” but Lassiter said the fryer will need to be replaced.

Lassiter added that the restaurant will be closed for a short time and will be allowed to re-open following an inspection by the Richmond County Health Department.
