UPDATE: Hamlet City Manager Jonathan Blanton told The Richmond Observer that multiple threats had been received in relation to the recent homicide at a gas station just down the road from where Hamlet’s July 4 activities were scheduled to take place, and that the city had to make this call to protect the safety of the large number of people who were expected to attend.

The City of Hamlet regrets to announce that the Fourth of July festivities planned for tomorrow, July 4, 2017, have been canceled. Due to heightened safety concerns and recent security developments that have been brought to the City’s attention, the City believes that this decision is in the best interest of the safety of our citizens and the community. The City is very saddened by the situation and apologizes for any inconveniences this may cause.
