Hamlet DMV office closed after lightning strike damages equipment

William R. Toler - Richmond Observer

HAMLET — People trying obtain or renew their driver’s license or a photo ID on Friday were turned away and told to come back later or go to a different location.

A sign taped to the door read: “Due to technical issues, this DMV driver license office is currently unable to issue driver licenses today.”

According to a spokesperson with the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles, the office was closed “to allow for equipment to be replaced that was damaged by (a) lightning strike” earlier in the week.

The office is also expected to be closed on Monday.

Drivers were told they could go to nearby locations in Aberdeen, Polkton, Laurinburg or Troy.
