Lassister said the fire was contained to the left-side apartment and there was no apparent damage to the one on the right.

The fire appeared to have started downstairs, which is the area that sustained the most damage, according to Lassiter. The upstairs portion sustained heat and smoke damage.

A family was renting the apartment that caught fire, Lassiter added.

As of 6 p.m., Lassiter said the cause of both fires was still unknown and that the duplex fire was still under investigation.
