Hamlet man injured while working on vehicle

HAMLET — A man was sent to the hospital Sunday afternoon after a vehicle he was working on fell on him.

It appears the man had driven his vehicle up on ramps to perform maintenance in the yard of his Henderson Street home when it rolled over top of him, according to Richard Lassister, assistant chief with Hamlet Fire and Rescue.

A neighbor heard the man yelling and went to see what was going on, Lassister said. The neighbor called 911 and stayed with the man until rescuers could get there.

The extrication took about five minutes, according to Lassiter, who added that a medical helicopter was initially called for but canceled.

UPDATE 4:40 p.m.:

The man was airlifted to a trauma center.
