Hamlet Police Department to host ‘Know Your Rights’ forum

HAMLET — Fulfilling one of its “vital services,” the Hamlet Police Department will be hosting a “Know Your Rights” forum next month.

The department announced the forum on its Facebook page Monday afternoon.

“The purpose of this endeavor is to apprise citizens on current laws that they may not know exist as well as address concerns citizens may have that can likely be cleared up with pleasant face-to-face banter,” reads the post.

Topics of the forum include:

  • Traffic stops – what’s expected and what to expect
  • Juvenile laws
  • Citizen encounters with law enforcement, including being detained; and
  • Domestic violence

The timed event will also include a question and answer session.

“The desire is that positive and accurate information is being relayed to the citizens of Hamlet as it pertains to law enforcement and the laws we enforce,” the post continues. “Likewise, we trust that this will minimize or foster more positive encounters with law enforcement and the citizens of Hamlet.”

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1596 U.S. 74 Bus.

For more information, contact the department at 910-582-2551.
