HAMLET – The Hamlet Police Department was called upon to investigate no less than three incidents of alleged domestic disturbances over the course of a recent weekend within five blocks of one another.

The first call came in at approximately 3:12 a.m. Saturday the 19th and occurred at 514 West Hamlet Avenue.  A dispute had arisen between the occupants of the residence, Arthur Wayne Smith, 53, and Christine Mitchell Byrd, 42.  Smith was arrested and charged with assault on a female while Byrd was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon (knife).  No bond was required of either party for a June 4th trial date in Richmond County District Court.

Later that day at approximately 2:30 p.m. a call came in to report a domestic disturbance at 208 West Hamlet Avenue.  Christina Nicole Quick, 28, had allegedly chased her father from the home with a knife, reportedly in retaliation for him having threatened Quick and her mother.  Quick was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon as well as being served with an outstanding warrant for resisting a public officer.  Quick was placed in the Richmond County Jail under a $3000 secured bond and given a trial date of June 4th in Richmond County District Court.

The next domestic situation transpired the following day, Sunday, May 20th, at approximately 7:24 p.m.  Officers arrived at 710 West Hamlet Avenue and were informed by a resident that her cell phone and car keys were forcibly taken by another resident.  While officers were conferring with the complainant, the other party exited the home and attempted to remove license plates from a vehicle in the yard.  When requested by the officers to cease and desist such actions, the individual refused to comply and physically pulled away from the officer who was attempting to view the removed license plate.  Cleo Jerome Wall was subsequently arrested and charged with delaying an investigation and resisting a public officer.  Wall was transported to the magistrate’s office where he was placed under a secured bond of $500 and issued a June 14th trial date in Richmond County District Court.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
