Hamlet Police Respond to Incidents of Simple Assault, Trespassing, Larceny

HAMLET – Brittany Darlene Chavis, 26, of 424 South Grace Chapel Church Road, Hamlet, was arrested and charged with simple assault (misdemeanor) in conjunction with a 3:16 p.m. altercation at the same address on Saturday, March 17th.

Chavis was processed through the magistrate’s office and released with no bond set.

Chavis’ trial date was set for April 2nd in Richmond County District Court.

In a separate case, Thomas Bernard York, 27, of 101 Monroe Avenue, Hamlet, was arrested and charged with larceny and 2nd degree trespassing, both misdemeanors, on Sunday, March 18th. 

Officers responded to a call from the resident of 96 Williams Street and took York into custody without incident.  It was reported that the arrestee was cooperative and caused no issues.

York was processed through the magistrate’s office under a secured bond of $1000.

A trial date of April 2nd was scheduled for Richmond County District Court.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
