HAMLET — Police are asking for help trying to find two men who attempted to break into a vehicle early Tuesday morning.

The Hamlet Police Department posted on its Facebook page surveillance video that appears to show two men wearing light-colored pants and hoodies walking across a yard on Fellowship Drive around 4:30 a.m. toward a SUV.

One of the suspects runs up the driveway while another tests the vehicle’s driver-side door.

Investigators say the doors were locked and the men were unable to make entry.

The two men then run back down the driveway to the getaway car, which investigators believe to be a light-colored Chevy Sonic.

Detective Capt. Randy Dover said investigators are not aware of any other break-ins or attempted break-ins in the area, but he encourages neighbors to check their vehicles to make sure nothing is missing.

Police remind residents to lock their vehicle doors and remove all valuables when not in use. They also advise against leaving a vehicle idling while unattended to prevent theft.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Hamlet Police Department at 910-582-2551 or Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.
