HAMLET — Police are searching for a suspect in a lunch-hour shooting at the Richmond County Soup Kitchen.

The incident happened just after 12:30 Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot by the soup kitchen on Hamlet Avenue, according to Capt. Randy Dover.

Dover said the male victim was grazed in the side and required medical attention, but his injury wasn’t serious.

The situation could have been worse, he added, but the gunman was only able to fire one shot.

Another person at the scene swung at the suspect, knocking the gun to the ground, causing the magazine to fall out, Dover said.

Investigators obtained a warrant for the suspect’s arrest, but he had not been found by 5:30 p.m.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released, but will be Thursday morning if he is still at large.

The Richmond Observer will have more on this story as it develops.
