HAMLET — Police say they found more than 30 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop this week.
According to the Hamlet Police Department, Camron Allen Miles, of McDonald Avenue, Hamlet, was driving without headlights down U.S. 74 Business just after midnight Sept. 17.
An officer reportedly initiated a traffic stop after Miles turned onto N.C. 38.
During the stop, the officer found 32 grams of meth, a small amount of marijuana, scales and needles.
According to N.C. law, possessing 28 grams or more of meth constitutes trafficking.
Miles was arrested and charged with one felony count of trafficking in methamphetamine; and one misdemeanor count each of possession of up to a half-ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $75,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 1.
Online jail records did not list Miles, but jail officials confirmed Friday afternoon that he was still in custody.
Online court records show Miles has several other pending charges: possession of a Schedule I controlled substance; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance; simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance; discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or motor vehicle; injury to personal property; carrying a concealed gun; and discharging a firearm in the city limits of Rockingham.
He is scheduled to appear in court on those charges Nov. 19.
Miles already has larceny convictions in two neighboring counties, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.
In 2016, he was convicted of two counts of misdemeanor larceny in Anson County and one count in Moore County.
He received probation in both cases.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
