ROCKINGHAM — At least one road in Richmond County has been closed due to storms moving through the area on Friday.
East Rockingham Fire Department Chief Bill Bayless said Airport Road was closed around 6:40 p.m. near Total Lubricants, across from the Richmond County Airport.
Bayless said that area is prone to flooding with heavy rains, adding that more than an inch had fallen in the 6 o’clock hour.
He wasn’t aware of any other roads closed from flooding.
However, Northside Fire Department Chief Ed Causey said lightning struck a house on Creek Run Road.
According to Lee Berry, Ellerbe had received 2.2 inches of rain by 7:15 p.m.
Rain is expected to continue throughout the evening, with areas of patchy fog in the morning hours, according to the National Weather Service.
A slight chance of showers is predicted for Sunday, with a moderate chance of showers Sunday night through Tuesday night.
