Highway Patrol investigating fatal wreck near Hamlet

HAMLET — Traffic is backed up on the U.S. 74 Bypass just west of the Scotland County line following a fatal collision.

Officials with the Hamlet Fire Department say a tractor-trailer and a Chevy Tahoe collided head-on in the eastbound lanes at Exit 322, where U.S. 74 business merges with the bypass.

The wreck happened around 6:30 p.m.

One person is dead, according to HFD.

The scene has not yet been cleared.

No other details are available at this time.

The N.C. State Highway Patrol is investigating.
