ROCKINGHAM — The downtown Rockingham area will be filled with the smoky smells of barbecue and the sounds of music Saturday, September 30, as the First Methodist Church in Rockingham will be hosting the 18th annual Holy Smoke BBQ and Music Festival.
The free outdoor music festival and family fun day will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on First Methodist’s campus, located at 410 E. Washington Street.
Open to the public, Richmond County Schools board member Wiley Mabe and his cooking crew will be preparing award-winning BBQ plates ($7) and sandwiches ($4). The event will also feature live music, showcasing former Motown artists Jimmy and Darlene Harrison from Charlotte (12 p.m.), followed by the Unity Quartet gospel group from Lumberton (1:30 p.m.). Jeanine Hanson will open the event at 11:30 a.m., followed by Ronnie Moore at 11:45 a.m.
A children’s area will also be on hand, and will offer local youth games to play, face painting, sidewalk chalk and playground equipment. Attendees are invited to bring a lawn chair and stay all day to enjoy music, food and play.
