ROCKINGHAM —The Band Booster Club, known as Raider Band Fans, will be hosting a Share Night fundraiser Tuesday, Feb. 11 for the Richmond Senior High School Marching Band at Highway 55.
A portion of all sales from 5-9 p.m. will be donated to the band, with proceeds going toward new instruments, trips, travel to and from games, entry fees to competitions, pre-game meals, and other necessities.
The band is very active throughout the community as it participates in all of the RSHS football games at home and away, as well as the Hamlet Christmas parade, Farmer’s Day parade, Martin Luther King Jr. parade, Veteran’s Day parade, and the homecoming parade. It has also been invited to inaugural governor parades as well as the Conway Christmas parade.
Edwin Carter became the new band director in September 2019 and the band has been steadily growing. It currently has 52 members.
“Edwin is doing an awesome job in teaching the students,” said Randy Stubbs, booster club president. “They love him and our band boosters love him.”
Stubbs is well seasoned with the band, as he was a member himself while attending RSHS in the 90s. He played the percussion and the drums. His involvement with the band struck up again in 2013.
Stubbs and the club’s other officers — Vice President Gus Bellamy, Treasurer Holly Bellanger and Secretary Lisa McLendon — organize and participate in band fundraisers, with the assistance of around 20 volunteers.
“I want to thank the community for supporting the students,” Stubbs said. “The Raider Band Fans would like to thank RSHS for the new drums which were purchased in 2019. We would also like to thank the school board for helping purchase the new uniforms. Without them, it wouldn’t be possible.”
