Inaugural Christmas Breakfast to be Held by Vickie Daniel; Several Community Members Sponsor Charity Event

Vickie Daniel's inaugural Christmas Breakfast will be held Saturday, December 9, from 8-11 a.m. at the Rockingham Armory.

ROCKINGHAM – Vickie Daniel, the Richmond County Clerk of Superior Court, has what she describes as a “heart of giving.”

She remembers growing up and watching her mother clean out the cabinets to give food to those who needed it, or give money in times of need for other families.

“It was how I was brought up,” Daniel stated.

This year, Daniel has decided to host an event that is all in the spirit of giving this Christmas, the inaugural Christmas Breakfast.

The breakfast is an opportunity for the community to come together for a full, hot breakfast including bacon, sausage, grits, eggs, coffee, orange juice, and biscuits donated from Bojangles for all in attendance.

Those who come are not asked to pay, but instead to bring non-perishable food items for donation or a new, unopened toy to be donated to Toys for Tots.

All of the donations received will go to the charities.

When asked how the event started up, Daniel stated that, “it was just in my heart.”

Daniel has always loved giving, and when talking with her friend in Stanly County, Ronnie Lowder, it was made clear to her that this event would be the perfect way to begin giving back to the people of Richmond County.

“I am more of a giver than a receiver…so I want this event to happen every year. I want it to be annual,” stated Daniel. She continued to talk about her passion for an event like the breakfast that would allow her to give to families and children who are not as blessed as others during this season.

Daniel has a history of helping others during the Christmas season, as she has surprised a family with Christmas before. She explained that all she wants to do is to help, “make Christmas brighter,” for families and make it so that all, “children have that twinkle in their eye.”

“This is not something I want to benefit from,” Daniel stated. “It is all for the charities. It is the season of giving.”

Many people are volunteering their time and helping, such as the Christian Cooking Convoy, the Baptist Men’s Association, Bojangles, and the people of both Stanly and Richmond County. Stanley and Linda Jacobs will also be at the breakfast singing Christmas carols.

Daniel is sponsoring the event along with many significant Richmond County members, which include District Attorney Reece Saunders, Sheriff James Clemmons, Richmond County School Board Member Bobbie Sue Ormsby, Senator Tom McInnis, Representative Ken Goodman and his wife and RCS Superintendent Dr. Cindy Goodman and former Rockingham Mayor and Representative Gene McLaurin and his wife Donna McLaurin.

Daniel stated that she is very excited and appreciates all of the support she has received for the first-time breakfast. She wants a large crowd to come and participate in the event so that as many families and children can benefit as possible.

The breakfast will be held on Saturday, December 9, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Rockingham National Guard Armory.
