RALEIGH – To improve the health of Medicaid beneficiaries, and to reduce costs, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is building an innovative health care delivery system with a payment structure that rewards better health outcomes, integrates physical and behavioral health, and invests in non-medical interventions. The effort is part of Managed Care Transformation.
NCDHHS today announced that North Carolina was one of four states selected to participate in a new multi-stakeholder Alternative Payment Model initiative in partnership with the Health Care Payment Learning & Action Network and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The initiative will build directly on North Carolina’s Medicaid managed care transformation work.
As part of the State Transformation Collaboratives, NCDHHS, in partnership with the LAN and CMS, will convene health plan partners, payers, providers, members, community-based organizations and other health care industry leaders to align on person-centered, locally driven approaches to paying for health care that support equitable, accessible, whole person, high value care.
CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure announced the launch of the State Transformation Collaboratives and the states selected to participate at this years’ 2021 Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network’s Summit. Administrator Brooks-LaSure emphasized the importance of state-level collaboration between Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payers to support industry progress in critical areas including advanced primary care, behavioral health integration and health equity. North Carolina will participate along with Arkansas, California and Colorado in this initiative.
