JCPenney Hosts Back-to-School Bash in Rockingham

ROCKINGHAM — Drivers and passing by community members may have noticed a plethora of emergency service vehicles in JCPenney’s parking lot Saturday morning.

Located in Richmond Plaza Shopping Center in Rockingham, the department store had a large crowd on hand not because any trouble had stirring, but because it was hosting its Back-to-School Bash.

Several local emergency service organizations, including Rockingham Fire Department, East Rockingham Fire Department, Cordova Fire and Rescue, and Rockingham Police Department, were on hand to display their rescue vehicles, including fire trucks and police cars. The school kick-off event took place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event was held to excite Richmond County Schools students and families about heading back to the classroom on Monday, August 28. JCPenney also used this opportunity to promote its store’s back-to-school sales.
