ROCKINGHAM — With Richmond County water bills coming due in just a few days, many customers have recently posted on social media that they haven’t yet received their December bills.

According to County Manager Bryan Land, the third-party vendor that handles billing, South Data, experienced a glitch with billing, partially due to COVID-19.

Land said the company confirmed bills were sent out Dec. 7 and customers should have started receiving them on Wednesday.

No late fees will be added for the month of December, Land said.

“However, please understand that this only applies to ‘late fees’ and does not waive a customer’s responsibility from paying their bill as required,” he added. “All other fees associated shall still apply including any cost for reconnection due to nonpayment.”

Land said the Water Department staff apologies for any inconvenience the situation may have caused the customers.

“We appreciate the patience that our customers have had,” he said. “The collections department has been working very diligently to answer the phone while also assisting customers at the drive-thru.”
