HAMLET – Nonprofit specialist Sam Gore will be presenting a free seminar from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Cole Auditorium in Hamlet.
Sponsored by Richmond Community College’s Small Business Center, the three-hour seminar will cover how to develop community support by utilizing volunteers so your nonprofit reaches its full potential.
“Typically, there are three main reasons that people choose to volunteer: they want to contribute to a good cause, they hope to develop new skills, or they want to meet people and make new friends,” Gore said. “Volunteers are some of the best donors. Providing volunteer opportunities helps charities keep donors engaged for a lifetime.”
Corporate volunteering has also become hugely popular, Gore added.
“Younger employees especially favor companies that have volunteer programs and that match their employees’ donations to favorite charities. Any charity that can open its doors to corporate volunteers has found a new entry to corporate giving,” Gore said.
Recruiting volunteers takes skill, Gore said, and preparing an organization to receive them and keep them happy takes dedication and knowledge
“Charities would not be able to operate without the help of their volunteers,” he said.
Gore is a 17-year veteran presenter for the small business network of the NC Community Colleges. He is also a product of a Small Businesses Center that assisted him in starting his business in 2000. He conducts 70 to 80 seminars annually and covers all phases of nonprofits from new startups, to the revitalization of existing ones. He is the founder president and executive director of Towards A Fruitful Ministry Inc., an organization dedicated to assisting nonprofits in developing functional structures, and enabling them to reach their full potential.
